What is a TikTok MCP server?
A TikTok MCP server is a tool server that allows an AI agent to interact with TikTok using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard that AI assistants use to call external tools. The agent makes a request, the server acts on TikTok, and the result comes back into the chat. TikTok MCP servers are of 3 types: ad servers, scrapers, and publishers. WoopSocial is a publisher.
Does TikTok have an official MCP server?
Yes, for ads. TikTok for Business’s MCP server manages campaigns; it doesn’t publish organic videos. TikTok’s help article (updated August 2026) describes its scope as “campaign management, performance reporting, audience configuration, and creative operations”, across about 400 tools, and it mentions no organic posting. The server launched at TikTok World in May 2026, and Digiday covered the launch.
If your agent needs to publish, the useful comparison is between the ad server, community servers and a publishing server (like WoopSocial):
| TikTok for Business MCP | Community servers | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Job | Ad campaigns, reporting, audiences | Mostly scraping and data | Organic videos and photo posts |
| Public posting | n/a | Needs your own app to pass TikTok’s audit | Yes, no audit on your side |
| Scheduling | n/a | Rarely | Yes |
| Disclosure labels | n/a | Varies | Branded content and AI-generated |
What your AI agent can do with TikTok
Once connected, your agent can do eleven things on TikTok:
| What you ask | What happens |
|---|---|
| Publish a video | Publishes a video post directly (postType: VIDEO). |
| Publish a photo post | Publishes a photo post with multiple images (postType: PHOTO). |
| Send to the creator’s inbox | Sends the post as a draft to finish in the TikTok app. |
| Set privacy | Sets who can see it, from the options your account offers. |
| Allow or disallow comments, Duet and Stitch | Sets each interaction on or off. |
| Label branded content | Sets the branded-content disclosure. |
| Label AI-generated content | Sets the AI-generated label. |
| Set a cover | Chooses the cover image for the post. |
| Schedule | Queues the post with SCHEDULE_FOR_LATER, converted to UTC. |
| Cross-post to Reels and Shorts | Sends the same clip to Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. |
| Read performance | Returns views, likes, comments and shares for each post, also includes account analytics to see follower counts. |
How to connect a TikTok MCP server to your agent (3 steps)
- Get your MCP URL. Create a free WoopSocial account (takes just ~70 seconds to set up) and open the API access page. Use the OAuth URL, https://api.woopsocial.com/mcp, for clients that support sign-in, or the API-key version for clients that don’t. The key sits inside that URL, so treat the whole URL like a password.
- Connect your TikTok account. In WoopSocial, connect a TikTok account. Personal, creator and business accounts all work, and there’s no developer app to register. You approve access on TikTok’s own sign-in page, so your agent never sees your password.
- Add WoopSocial to your agent. In Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or another MCP client, add WoopSocial as a remote MCP server and authorize it. Then ask: “List my social accounts in WoopSocial.” If your TikTok account comes back, you’re ready to post. Our MCP setup guide gives more insights.
A real conversation
This is a recorded session, not a mock-up. The prompt was: “Check what privacy options my TikTok has, then schedule this video for Saturday 19:00, public, comments on, Duet off, labelled as AI-generated.”
The tool chain: social_accounts_get_platform_inputs → posts_validate → posts_create.
TikTok MCP prompts to try
Copy any of these into your agent, and swap in your own specific content.
- “Post these 8 photos as a TikTok photo post with this caption.”
- “Send this video to my TikTok inbox so I can add a trending sound in the app.”
- “Schedule this clip on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts for Friday 17:00.”
- “Mark this post as branded content for our partner.”
- “What’s the longest video my TikTok account can post?”
- “Which TikToks from last week got the most shares?”
TikTok requirements and limits
These limits come from TikTok, not from WoopSocial. They are from the TikTok Content Posting API docs.
- Daily posts: about 15 per creator per day. TikTok says “typically around 15”, shared across all apps.
- Video size: up to 4 GB.
- Video length: up to 10 minutes via the API. The real cap is per account (maxVideoPostDurationSec), so check it first.
- Photo posts: up to 35 images.
- Title: 90 characters.
- Description: 4,000 characters.
WoopSocial vs TikTok’s API directly
Here’s a direct comparison between going direct to TikTok’s API vs using WoopSocial:
| TikTok API direct | |
|---|---|
| A Direct Post audit that takes 2 to 6 weeks | Already audited |
| Until you pass, every post is private (SELF_ONLY), and at most 5 users per 24 hours can authorize your app | Public posting from day one |
| Access tokens that expire after 24 hours | Tokens refreshed for you |
| No publish-status webhooks | Delivery webhooks and automatic retries |
| Creator info to query before every post | Handled for you |
What it doesn’t do
WoopSocial is a publisher that posts/schedules organic TikTok content, so some features are out of scope:
- Ads, which are covered by TikTok’s MCP
- Stories
- Trending sounds. Use inbox mode, then add the sound in the app.
- Comments, replies and DMs
