What is a Pinterest MCP server?
A Pinterest MCP server is a tool server that enables an AI agent to interact with Pinterest over the open standard API - Model Context Protocol (MCP). When the agent asks to use Pinterest, the server acts on Pinterest, and the results are fed into the chat for the agent to act on. Pinterest MCP servers are different: some read data, some handle ads, and some create pins. WoopSocial is a publishing and scheduling server.
Does Pinterest have an official MCP server?
Yes, announced in September 2026, though it doesn’t look generally available yet (as of November 2026). Pinterest announced its MCP Server on September 22, 2026, describing it as bringing “data and Ads capabilities” to AI tools. Its developer page says you can search Pins, explore and manage Boards, uncover trends and access audience insights using OAuth 2.0 and scoped permissions. It also still invites you to sign up for launch updates.
| Pinterest MCP | Community servers | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Focus | Data and Ads: Pins, Boards, trends and audience insights | Mixed | Publishing and scheduling Pins |
| Scheduling | Not described on the page | Rarely | Yes |
| Developer app or access tier | OAuth 2.0 with scoped permissions; the page doesn’t spell out the access tier | Your own Trial or Standard app | None |
| Other platforms | No | No | 9 |
What your AI agent can do with Pinterest
Once connected, your agent can do seven things on Pinterest:
| What you ask | What happens |
|---|---|
| List my boards | Returns your boards, so you can pick one by name. |
| Create an image Pin | Publishes a Pin with a title, description, destination link and alt text. |
| Create a video Pin | Publishes a video Pin. |
| Create a multi-image Pin | Publishes a Pin with 2 to 5 images. |
| Schedule Pins weeks ahead | Queues Pins with SCHEDULE_FOR_LATER, which suits seasonal content. |
| Cross-post to Instagram | Sends the same visual to Instagram with its own caption. |
| Read performance | Returns impressions, saves and clicks for each Pin. Can also track follower growth. |
How to connect a Pinterest MCP server to your agent (3 steps)
- Get your MCP URL. Create a free WoopSocial account (takes about ~70 seconds to set up) and open the API access page. Use the OAuth URL, https://api.woopsocial.com/mcp, for clients that support sign-in, or the API-key version for clients that don’t. The key sits inside that URL, so treat the whole URL like a password.
- Connect your Pinterest account. In WoopSocial, connect a Pinterest account. Any account works, and a business account is recommended because some analytics need one. You approve access on Pinterest’s own sign-in page, so your agent never sees your password.
- Add WoopSocial to your agent. In Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or another MCP client, add WoopSocial as a remote MCP server and authorize it. You can ask - “List my social accounts in WoopSocial.” If your Pinterest account comes back, you’re set. Our MCP setup guide covers each client.
A real conversation
This is a recorded session. The prompt was: “Pin this recipe photo to my Weeknight Dinners board, link it to the blog post, and schedule it for Sunday 9:00.”
The tool chain: social_accounts_get_platform_inputs (boards) → posts_validate → posts_create.
Pinterest MCP prompts to try
You can try out any of these prompts - simply swap in your own content.
- “Which boards do I have on Pinterest?”
- “Create 5 Pins from these images for my Holiday Gifts board, one per day starting Monday.”
- “Make a multi-image Pin from these 4 photos with alt text for each.”
- “Write a keyword-rich title and description for this Pin.”
- “Schedule our Christmas Pins for mid-November.”
- “Which Pins got the most saves last month?”
Pinterest requirements and limits
These limits come from Pinterest, not from WoopSocial. You can check out Pinterest’s Pins API for more.
- Title: up to 100 characters.
- Description: up to 800 characters.
- Alt text: up to 500 characters.
- Link: up to 2,048 characters.
- Video: 4 seconds to 15 minutes.
- Multi-image Pins: 2 to 5 images. A Pin can’t mix images and video.
- Recommended ratio: 2:3 (1000 by 1500 pixels).
WoopSocial vs Pinterest’s API directly
Pinterest’s API is comparatively friendly. However, going direct still has a few downsides. Here is what to expect in comparison with using WoopSocial:
| Pinterest API direct | |
|---|---|
| Apps start in Trial access: your own content only, and 1,000 requests a day | Already on production access |
| Standard access needs a video demo | No review required |
| Every Pin needs a board ID | Your agent lists your boards and picks one by name |
| No scheduling | SCHEDULE_FOR_LATER and drafts |
What it doesn’t do
WoopSocial is a publishing server. It mainly publishes/schedules Pins, so some Pinterest features are out of its scope:
- Mixed image-and-video Pins
- More than 5 images per Pin
- Creating boards. Your agent picks from your existing boards.
- Comments
- Ads. Use Pinterest’s own tools for those.
