Reels are short, engaging, and vertical videos that are shared on social media, especially Instagram and Facebook. People use Reels to share all kinds of content, from mundane moments of life to spectacular feats best saved for the Olympic arena. The average Reel duration is 30 seconds, but they can range from 15 seconds to a minute and a half.

In addition to these standard video properties, which alone might ensure a certain level of appeal, Reels also invite an array of audiovisual embellishments. For starters, we can do Reels with sound—original or otherwise. Does anyone actually use Instagram in silence?
