This entails the nitty-gritty details of setting the exact moment to publish for maximum audience engagement, using visuals that not only attract attention but also serve the narrative, writing captions that do something beyond just stating what the image is—something that works on the emotional or even slightly manipulative level for an increased number of clicks, likes, shares, and comments—and making sure the right hashtags, keywords, and tags are in place so that the post shows up in the right search results and/or in front of the eyes of the right community.

The optimization of posts also takes into account the specific requirements of each platform, which can include anything from the ideal number of characters (or words) to use to the best way to format an image or video. Even when 'rules' for how to present something aren't explicitly stated, there are still standards that can be inferred and that make the difference between a post that looks 'spammy' and one that looks rock solid, seemingly a priority for the platform's algorithm.
