A 'Post' within the context of social media can take many forms, and it is the most basic and universal way to interact with others on a platform. Everyone on a platform can create posts, and they can take any number of guises in different parts of different platforms. Posts are read, reacted to, and commented on by users who are in someone's network or audience, and the words of a post can elicit sympathy or even empathy from those users.

A post can be as simple as a statement of one's mood or as complex as a scholarly article. They can include images, videos, links to other content, and audio files. More and more often, posts are interactive in the way that a person can use a video game.

Posts of any kind, at any time, can be public or private in the way that only certain people can see them. And what's really fascinating about a post is that it can either be permanent or temporary. With the use of 'stories,' a person can immediately post something that is going to disappear after a set period of time.
