Funnel
The 'funnel' in social media refers to the structured occurrence or journey that potential customers or followers travel when they become aware of your brand, product, or service and are then led to take a specific action, like making a purchase, signing up, or otherwise engaging with your content. It is often represented visually as a narrowing pathway that resembles the shape of an actual funnel, going from initial wide audience at the top to a more targeted, refined group at the bottom that actually performs some action. There are three main stages in the funnel:
1.
Stage 1: Awareness—Drawing the audience in through posts, ads, or influencer marketing that builds familiarity and interest. 2. Stage 2: Consideration—Cultivating deeper interest with the audience through the kind of content that you would most like to share with them, such as detailed posts, educational videos, or behind-the-scenes looks at your brand or offerings.
At this stage, social proof—testimonials, reviews, etc. —also comes into play. 3.
Stage 3: Conversion—Getting the audience to take an actual action that you very much want them to take, via calls to action (CTAs) that push them to doing something like buying or subscribing. This stage also includes retargeting, ad ops, and other ways to push reluctant folks down the funnel.
