When we refer to Channel Insights in the context of social media, we are talking about the collection, analysis, and presentation of files and metrics that tell us in detail about the goings-on in a specific social media channel or profile. This could be an Instagram account, a Facebook Page, or a YouTube channel. We use Channel Insights to get the lowdown on just how well a particular channel is doing in terms of not only audience engagement but also the overall 'channel quality,' if you will.

Now, a lot of the data that we use to paint this picture is pretty cut-and-dried, numbers-wise. You know: the amount of followers, likes, shares, comments, clicks, impressions, reach, etc. But we also use a fair amount of qualitative data in the picture-painting process, which primarily (but not exclusively) involves a lot of guessing about what the audience is thinking or up to.

Of course, when it comes to the guessing part, some of us are better at it than others. But the point is to use all this data to assess what goes on in a channel when we are not looking. After all, in this day and age, it's not enough just to have a social media presence; you need to be killing it (or at least not be bad at it) on all the major platforms a la Channel Insights.
