Audience Demographics

Audience demographics target the specific characteristics and attributes of the individuals who engage with a brand, business, or content creator on social media. They afford a glimpse into the nearly infinite variety that makes up the people on the other end of a digital conversation. As such, the audience demographic encompasses a universe of not very well-defined data points that get us closer to who these individuals are and what makes them tick. And if the name auditoire is shunned for being too French and excessively embourgeoisé (after all, who wants to be landed gentry?) to fit with the digital anarcho-commune, the word audience carries as much baggage as beholder does in less flattering portraits of imperial figures. Although the platform isn't as glamorous, a social media audience isn't all that different from a nightclub audience. Both target the same types of individuals, just in different ways and with different kinds of messages. After all, these are the demos that pay the rent.
