Audience

The term 'audience' means something specific in the context of social media. It doesn't simply refer to the individuals who might encounter, engage with, or react to the content you post on social platforms. It's more than just your followers, fans, or the people who might see your posts, videos, or stories.

The audience on social media is more vast and varied than ever before. And when social media audiences are expanded, who knows what potential exists in the American marketplace? The audience you encounter can span all sorts of characteristics and half-formed signifiers.

On the surface, these content creators' audiences might look demographic. But the next obvious thing about an audience is that just because you can see it doesn't mean it's perceivable to you as the person who created the content. Biometric artists, for example, pretty much have no audience when it comes to the perception part because the audience can't see you.

It's on a need-to-know basis. On the other hand, when it comes to audience perception, I see a potential for ridiculousness. And yet, ridiculousness isn't all bad.
